Honestly, October is the best time to be in Palm Springs. The crazy summer heat finally cools down, but it’s still warm enough to enjoy the desert. It’s perfect for getting outside—like hiking up in the San Jacinto Mountains or exploring the Indian Canyons. The weather makes everything so much more enjoyable!
Also, you can’t skip the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway—it’s such a cool experience. The ride up is breathtaking, and once you’re at the top you get these incredible views of the whole Coachella Valley. We did it as a family and absolutely loved it! Just a tip: bring a jacket. I totally forgot mine, and while it was warm at the bottom, it was so chilly at the top. Once you’re up there, you can hike around or just enjoy the scenery. Don’t miss it—it’s worth it!
For golf enthusiasts, numerous world-class golf courses are available to enjoy a round of golf against the stunning desert backdrop. Additionally, consider visiting the Desert Botanical Garden or the Living Desert Zoo, where you can admire a variety of desert flora and fauna without the scorching summer heat.

October is honestly the best time to visit Joshua Tree National Park. The weather is just right—cooler days, sunny skies, and none of the summer heat—so you can really enjoy being outside. Some mornings and evenings can get chilly, but that just makes it perfect for hiking, camping, or even trying something adventurous like birdwatching, mountain biking, or rock climbing without overheating.
We love visiting in the fall because it means we can actually hike and explore with the kids without worrying about the desert heat. Some of our favorite trails are Hidden Valley, Barker Dam Loop, and Ryan Mountain Trail—each one has incredible rock formations, desert plants, and views that make the effort totally worth it. The cooler weather just makes everything so much more enjoyable.

While exploring, keep your eyes peeled for desert wildlife like bighorn sheep, tortoises, and some incredible bird species. Ranger-led programs are a great way to dive deeper into the park’s geology, ecology, and history.
For something truly surreal, visit the Cholla Cactus Garden—the way it glistens in the October light feels straight out of a dream. And beyond the park, don’t miss the chance to check out Joshua Tree’s local art scene, where you’ll find unique, desert-inspired crafts and artwork.

Autumn in Los Angeles is pure magic! 🍂✨ October is the perfect time to explore this famous, fun city. The weather is warm but comfortable, usually in the mid-60s to low 70s, so you can enjoy everything without overheating.
There’s so much happening this time of year—from Dia de los Muertos celebrations to baseball games for sports fans. Plus, the cooler temperatures make it ideal for strolling through neighborhoods, visiting iconic spots, or checking out seasonal events around the city.

Discover Hollywood! 🌟 Start with the iconic Hollywood Sign and stroll along the Walk of Fame, spotting stars of legends like Marilyn Monroe and Tom Hanks along the sidewalk. Don’t miss the TCL Chinese Theatre, where you can catch a movie in a classic, old-school setting.
For a behind-the-scenes look at filmmaking, I highly recommend a tour of Universal Studios Hollywood. We absolutely loved it! Explore famous sets like the Psycho House and Diagon Alley, and keep your eyes peeled—you might even spot some celebrities in action!
If you can afford it Shop for clothes and accessories at Rodeo Drive, where you’ll find the trendiest designer labels. Keep an eye out for stars too or just like me do window shopping and get your picture at this iconic road!
Once night comes, head out for some fun! Check out rooftop bars or exclusive clubs to dance and drink. We visited onec during afternnon with the kids and it was so fun. Get ready to be amazed by the city’s bright lights and vibrant energy.
Also, you can Visit a harvest festival or farmers market to sample all the seasonal treats like fresh apple pie, pumpkin-spiced latte, and caramel apples. If you wan to explore the city’s amazing natural beauty I recommend you to Visit Griffith Park for lots of hiking trails and an observatory where you can see the stars. Santa Monica Mountains is perfect for mountain biking or horseback riding – plus it’s still warm in October. Or head to Runyon Canyon for a beautiful hike and maybe even a celeb sighting!

If you’re planning a trip to this side of California, Yosemite is an absolute must—especially around this time of year. 🍂 It’s such a special season: the roads aren’t snowy yet, the weather is mild, and you can enjoy hours of hiking without the summer heat.
Yosemite is pure magic. You’ll be surrounded by towering granite cliffs, lush foliage, and stunning views at every turn. The hiking trails are endless, each offering its own breathtaking perspective of this natural wonder.
Here’s why October is one of the best times to visit Yosemite:

You can do leaf peeping here because even that there is so much ever green trees there, also you find maple trees and black oak that during the fall make stunning backgrounds. It makes the views even more gorgeous. Where the foliage turns into spectacular shades of red, orange, and gold.
Great hikes during the time of the year are the Mist Trail to see Vernal and Nevada Falls or take on more challenging routes like the Half Dome trail for panoramic vistas if trails are not close.
Another awesome way to enjoy Yosemite in the fall is by driving along Tioga Road and Glacier Point Road to soak in the incredible autumn landscapes. 🍂 Wildlife is also easier to spot this time of year since there are fewer people around—on our visits, we’ve even seen bears! Of course, always use caution and never approach or feed them.
Stargazing is a must in October, thanks to Yosemite’s Dark Sky Park status, and the park often hosts astronomy programs that make it extra special. You’ll also have the chance to dive into Yosemite’s rich history and culture by visiting the Yosemite Museum, Ansel Adams Gallery, and the historic Ahwahnee Hotel.
Tioga Road usually stays open into October, giving access to the high country, including Tuolumne Meadows with its serene alpine lakes, unique hikes, and breathtaking scenery. 🌄

Another fun thing to do in California this time of year is enjoying a scenic drive before the rains arrive, going for a hike, or exploring the state parks. 🌿 This part of California is just dreamy in the fall, offering so many awe-inspiring activities and gorgeous landscapes to soak in.
We absolutely love exploring all the hidden gems in Big Sur this time of year. 🍂 Sometimes, if you’re lucky, you can catch the whale migration that starts around now! The views of the Pacific Ocean and coastal cliffs from Bixby Creek Bridge, McWay Falls, and Pfeiffer Beach are just stunning—and the best part is, you can see them all easily by car.

If you want to get even closer to nature, don’t miss the incredible hiking trails. The McWay Waterfall Trail, Ewoldsen Trail, and Pfeiffer Falls Trail are perfect for taking in lush forests, waterfalls, and spotting wildlife along the way.

And for the perfect way to unwind, soak in one of Big Sur’s natural hot springs, like Esalen Institute or Sykes Hot Springs, where you can relax while soaking in the stunning scenery.
